Green Ridge State Forest
Green Ridge State Forest is one of Maryland's most popular off-roading destinations and spans over 47,500 acres. Offering more than 100 miles of tough terrain, Green Ridge State Forest is the perfect place to put your Jeep to the test. It features muddy creek crossings, rocky paths, steep hill climbs, and wooded trails. It is friendly for off-roaders of all skill levels, with a wide variety of trails. In addition to off-roading, visitors can also enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, and more. There are also several campgrounds in the forest, allowing for your off-road adventure to be spread out over a few days. Being a state forest, visitors are required to stay on the designated trails so as not to disturb the environment and wildlife.
Savage River State Forest
Another great off-roading spot is Savage River State Forest, which is spread out across over 54,000 acres. The trail offers a wide variety of challenging terrain spread out across more than 60 miles. Features include narrow paths, water crossings, steep hills, and more. Visitors have been known to spot a wide range of wildlife creatures, including bald eagles, black bears, deer, turkeys, and more. Like Green Ridge State Forest, Savage River State Forest is good for much more than just off-roading; visitors can also enjoy camping, hunting, fishing, birdwatching, and more.
Assateague Island National Seashore
The Assateague Island National Seashore is Maryland's most unique off-roading destination. It is located on a barrier island off the coast. Instead of wooded trails and creek crossings, the Assateague Island National Seashore offers sandy beach dunes to put your Jeep to the test with. However, the trails span 37 miles, and you can also find marshes and forests to explore as well. Being an island, visitors can also expect to be able to enjoy swimming, sunbathing, kayaking, and enjoying breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. The island is also home to a wild horse population which is believed to be descendants of horses that survived an 18th-century shipwreck. Additionally, the island is home to several historical landmarks for visitors to learn about its history.
