Throughout its history, Jeep has always strived to move forward, never settling for good enough. What is the Jeep 4xe Powertrain?

Jeep introduced the 4xe powertrain to the Wrangler in 2021, enhancing both efficiency and performance with a seamless blend of gas and electric power. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), like Jeep's 4xe powertrain, use electric motors, a rechargeable battery pack, and an internal combustion engine to power the vehicle. The 4xe powertrain specifically uses a two-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with one electric motor mounted in place of the traditional alternator, an electric motor within the transmission replacing the torque converter, and a 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack. This setup combines for a maximum power output of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Jeep 4xe models can have their usage and efficiency controlled by Hybrid, Electric, and E-Save modes, allowing the driver to optimize the driving experience. In Hybrid mode, the vehicle prioritizes electric power while using the internal combustion engine to supplement additional power upon request. Meanwhile, in Electric mode, the gas engine is disabled, running solely on electric power. This provides 21 miles of emissions-free driving for the Wrangler 4xe and 25 miles for the Grand Cherokee 4xe. Finally, E-Save mode can be selected to save electric power for a later time, running solely on gas power. This is also automatically engaged when the 4xe's battery becomes depleted. The 4xe powertrain affords the Wrangler 4xe a 370-mile total driving range and 49 MPGe, while the Grand Cherokee 4xe achieves a 470-mile driving range and up to 56 MPGe.

How Does the Wagoneer S Work?

Battery-electric vehicles are ones that run solely on electric power, completely void of an internal combustion engine. The all-new, all-electric Wagoneer S, for example, uses one electric drive module (EDM) to power the front wheels and one to power the rear wheels. These EDMs draw power from a 400-volt, 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack. By using an EDM on each axle, the Wagoneer S provides four-wheel drive traction and instantaneous torque distribution. With an EV, electrons are constantly flowing, even when the gas pedal isn't being pressed. So, while the wheels may not be driven, torque is readily available when the accelerator pedal is pressed. This provides an exciting driving experience. Adding to this experience, the Wagoneer S provides drivers with 600 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, which combine for a 0-60 time of just 3.4 seconds. The Wagoneer S sits on the highly flexible Stellantis Large platform. However, engineers adjusted the width, length, powertrain, and suspension to make it tailored specifically for the Wagoneer S to provide instant torque distribution and lightning-fast acceleration. Since the Wagoneer S doesn't feature an internal combustion engine, it doesn't offer the E-Selec drive modes that the 4xe models do. However, it does feature Selec-Terrain Traction Management with Eco, Sand, Sport, Snow, and Auto modes to optimize traction and performance on any given terrain. 

How Do I Charge a Jeep EV?

There are three different charging options available for electric vehicles: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Levels 1 and 2 are both available for all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, while Level 3 is exclusively for all-electric ones. It's important to remember that larger batteries take longer to charge. Therefore, the plug-in hybrid Jeep 4xe models will often charge faster than the all-electric Wagoneer S. A Level 1 charger comes with the purchase of a new electric vehicle and plugs into a traditional household outlet, providing approximately 1.2 kilowatts. This power gives a Jeep 4xe a full charge in about 10 hours, while it takes a Level 1 charger up to three days to charge the Wagoneer S to completion. Meanwhile, a Level 2 EV charging station is available for purchase and directly connects to your home's electrical system, providing it with 10 to 19 kilowatts of power. Jeep partnered with Free2Move for the available Level 2 chargers and Qmerit for their professional installation. Level 2 chargers are the ones you will find at public charging stations. While a Jeep 4xe can get a full charge in approximately 2.5 hours from a Level 2 charger, the all-electric Wagoneer S gets a full charge in 8 to 10 hours. Finally, a Level 3 charger, found only at select public charging stations, is also known as Direct Current (DC) Fast Charging. With a DC Fast Charger, the Wagoneer S can gain a full charge in 15 to 60 minutes. Using the Free2Move smartphone application, Wagoneer S drivers can easily find the nearest Level 3 charging station, pay for public charging, and start, and monitor your charging session.
