How is the Dodge Hornet R/T Powered?

Dodge burst into the electric vehicle segment for the first time with the release of the Dodge Hornet R/T and its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system. The Hornet R/T has claimed the title of the most powerful compact utility vehicle on the market with 288 horsepower and a whopping 383 lb-ft of torque. This power begins with a 1.3L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine underneath the hood to power the front wheels. Meanwhile, the rear wheels are powered by a 90-kilowatt (kW) electric motor mounted to the rear axle. This electric motor draws power from a lithium-ion battery pack. Working together, this setup provides the Hornet R/T with standard all-wheel drive. For exciting performance, the R/T's electric motor instantly provides 184 lb-ft of torque, dropping the 0-60 time to 5.6 seconds. Power is delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission that can be controlled with paddle shifters for a more connected driving experience. Pulling both paddle shifters at the same time activates the R/T's exclusive PowerShot feature, which unleashes a burst of 25 extra horsepower for 15 seconds, unlocking a top speed of 128 MPH. Like other PHEVs, the Hornet R/T features Hybrid, E-Save, and Electric drive modes to customize your usage and maximize efficiency.

Turbocharged Power of the Hornet GT

The Dodge Hornet GT features the lineup's standard engine, which is a 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. The forced air induction provided by the twin-scroll turbocharger provides more power than a naturally aspirated engine without compromising fuel efficiency. The turbocharger features an electronically-actuated wastegate, which enhances overall performance and improves the engine's responsiveness. To manage the temperature of the intake air, turbocharging unit, and throttle body, the engine features a water-to-air intercooler. This turbocharged powerhouse provides an impressive 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. To achieve a 6.5-second 0-60 time, the Hornet GT features Sport mode, which optimizes power output, throttle response, and transmission shift points, among other vehicle systems, to provide maximum performance. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission powering an innovative all-wheel drive system with active torque vectoring for better control navigating corners.
